Double Glazing – The Benefits, Why
have Double-Glazed Replacement Windows?
Double-glazing offers a wealth of benefits for the homeowner and is well worth
the investment.
These benefits are practical and cover a wide area. Double-glazing offers
security and safety that traditional windows cannot match.
Traditional single pane windows are normally
made of a single sheet of regular glass. If this gets hit it is likely to
shatter into long,
sharp shards. Double-glazing
however can offer a greater degree of safety on breaking and this is especially
important for families with small children. It is also possible can to improve
the safety of the double-glazing by using security glass, toughened glass or
shatterproof glass. (UK Law in low level glazing situations requires this – please
see: Safety Glass For
Double Glazing)
High security window frames and locking systems can be used to make it a great
deal harder for intruders to gain entry to your home.
Modern homes can lose as much as 25% of their heat through the windows. By
installing low-emissivity glass (Low-E) the sun's heat and light is allowed
to pass through the glass into the building, but blocks heat from leaving the
room, thereby considerably reducing heat loss. In doing so can save money on
your heating bills and keep your house warmer. Sitting by a large, double-glazed
picture window is a great deal more comfortable on a cold winter night.
Some would argue that Double-glazing can drastically change the appearance
of the home, but if you are doing restoration a good, reputable contractor
will work with you to find a product that will suit your architecture.
Choose Double Glazing because:
- Greater safety compared with traditional
windows.
- Greater security with their window
frames and locking systems.
- Conservation of energy. Good for
the environment as well as the bank account.
- Can be designed to suit you’re
architecture.
Triple Glazing
With triple glazing you get an extra pane of glass in the unit. This will
give greater sound insulation as the sound waves have three panes of glass
to pass through. If you live in a built up area, by a busy road or by anything
that can cause a large amount of sound pollution then triple glazing can help
a great deal.
You will also receive greater energy savings
from triple glazing. You’ll
save more on your heating bills than you would with double-glazing. Prices
for Triple glazing are typically 20 – 40% more than double glazing. |
